Jurassic World Dominion

100 words or less:

In the wisdom of my soon to be wife Christie, “It isn’t the best Jurassic, but it is the most Jurassic”. What does this mean exactly? Let me paraphrase, this is by far not the best movie in the Jurassic series but it sure is entertaining and has the biggest and most ferocious dinosaur yet (why are they always going bigger?)

Full Review:

I will save a lot of people some time, this is not an amazing movie, but it is a movie with cool dinosaurs trying to eat people and each other, so there is a lot to like about this one.

I wasn’t a big fan of the second Jurassic world movie mainly because of the stupid little girl who was upset because the dinosaurs were going to die so she released them all. Unfortunately, she plays a key role here in the third entry and that makes me sad because I don’t like the character. While she isn’t nearly as obnoxious in this one, I still don’t like her.

Speaking of characters I don’t like, there is Chris Pratt’s character, Owen, who is a poor man’s Alan Grant. Not nearly as awesome and 2 times as annoying. At least the dinosaurs listen to him when he holds his hand up in front of them…

The real saving grace of this movie is the return of Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum reprising their roles from the original trilogy of movies. Having them back checks the box from the recent movie tropes of nostalgia bait that has been keeping people interested in sequels in recent years. And trust me that is the only reason I was actually interested in seeing this sequel… well besides the cool dinosaurs.

Speaking of dinosaurs, let’s talk about one of the stranger things done in this movie that had me questioning some of the decisions made in the making of the movie. I know one of the criticisms of the previous two movies in the series was that every dinosaur was CGI which turned some people off of the movies because some of the dinosaurs weren’t as threatening because of how shiny they were. So in response this movie had some actual models of the dinosaurs like in the original trilogy. While this sounds cool, it just took me out of the movie even more because there is only so much the puppets could do and they just looked plastic and fake. We have the technology to make really good looking dinosaurs in CG as demonstrated by many of the scenes where they did that in this movie and the puppets just give me weird vibes that distract rather than being additive.

Overall this movie is worth a watch for those who are invested in the series or just want to see budget Tim cook get eaten by a dinosaur (by the way, I was disappointed the villain of the movie was budget Tim Cook rather than budget Jeff Bezos).

7/10 barbasol cans with dino DNA.
