It’s been a minute…
Much like Brittney Spears, oops, I did it again. Between having just gotten a new kitten, to just not feeling the need to see most of the movies that have come out recently, I have been slacking on reviewing all that is the cinema recently.
But, I am back and needed something to distract from the strange dystopian nightmare that is the world right now. I am not here to get political but know I am sick to my stomach over the decision the SCOTUS made today and I am terrified for my sisters, fiancée, and all of the women in my life, as well as scared what this precedent may lead to in the not so distant future.
So, here we go. I know when things are terrible, I like to distract myself to try to just get a little bit of happiness when everything else seems pointless, so here is a list of the movies I have seen in the last month-ish.
Father Stu:
Starring Mark Walberg, this based on a true story movie is a very preachy movie about a man who was down on his luck who decides to move to LA to become a movie star, then decides to stalk a woman he sees at his job to a church. After a bit he has a near death accident on his motorcycle where he sees Mother Mary as he is lying on the road and decides then and there that he is going to become a priest. Overall, not my kind of movie as, rather than implying the lesson, they just smack you in the face with it.
It didn’t help that during my viewing, as the youngest in the theater by approximately 40 years, I had my worst experience since theaters reopened post lockdowns. Not my type of movie mixed with rude theater-goers caused a sour taste in my mouth.
Overall, this one was just a 5/10.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness:
Marvel has spoiled me in the past however long they have been doing the cinematic universe by creating fantastic storylines that sprawl through multiple movies involving characters they have built up over years. Once Endgame happened though, there was a turning point. With the start of phase four, they started throwing random people into the movies just for the sake of getting the comic nerds excited. I am not a comic book nerd, I am a marvel movie nerd. I am tired of needing to look up an article written by someone else in order to understand what the heck is happening with all of the cameos they throw into each movie. Not to mention the fact that in order to understand everything that happens in the movies, you have to have watched four different TV shows on Disney+.
For this movie in particular, it is a decent marvel movie but I get annoyed with the weak villains whose motivations are the dumbest, most unrelatable motives that should be talked out of by the people close to them (no spoilers here) and I can’t keep up anymore with all of the extra work it takes to keep up with the universe.
The consensus on this one is still out as far as I know. I have heard some people thought it was one of the best Marvel movies, and some who thought it was one of the worst. I am somewhere in-between but leaning slightly towards the worse end.
Overall it is a 6.5/10.
I have three other reviews to write up but they all deserve their own separate review pages because two I thoroughly enjoyed, and one is Jurassic World Dominion which I saw tonight so it is fresh in my mind.
Stay tuned for the other three review coming soon.
