Free Guy

100 words or less:

Ryan Reynolds. Need I say more. If you want more, then here it is, this movie is a fantastic upbeat movie that is worth a watch whether you play video games or not. The inclusion of the real world youtubers and streamers reacting to Guy’s appearance in the game world adds an extra something tying the game to the real world as well which is a nice touch. Overall if you want a fun movie that should be universally enjoyed this is a great movie to watch.

Christie’s review:

I would like to begin this review by reminding everyone Joe Keery doesn’t wash his hair (google it) and Ryan Reynolds can do no wrong. If you like a good soundtrack and are familiar at all with classic video game tropes you will get a kick out of this movie. Bonus points for the Alex Trebek cameo (RIP) and an overall feel that reminds me of Ralph Breaks the internet.

I give this movie 9.5/10 Goldies.

Full Review:

Free Guy is a wonderful movie that is probably going to be underappreciated for just how fun of a movie it is. From the soundtrack to the cast of characters all the way to the cameos of famous youtubers and twitch streamers all contribute to one of my favorite movies of the year so far.

Ryan Reynolds is an absolute gem and we need him to be a part of more unique movies like this. The naïve ineptness of his character in this movie can only truly be pulled off by him and really sells the bit of him being an NPC in a video game world.

The action in the movie isn’t over the top or outrageous but is used in a comical way and really exaggerates the video game tropes to accentuate how ridiculous this world is. If you’ve played any GTA games, you’ll probably find the mocking of that game series hilarious as I did because it is relentless.

Overall I would suggest anyone who just wants to have a good time and enjoy a feel good story. Also Taika Waititi is the best.

9/10 Dudes.
