The Green Knight

100 words or less:

Word of warning if you want to see this movie. It would be best to brush up on your King Arthur Lore. Besides that you have a strange film that uses the period of knights and chivalry as a background for a mythical almost Sci-fi story about what it takes to become an honorable man and the hurdles it can take to achieve what you believe is honor.

Full Review:

If you are a fan of King Arthur and the tales surrounding his knights of the round table, then this movie is for sure targeted towards you. If you aren’t this movie probably isn’t worth a watch. I am not usually a fan of movies that if you don’t know the source material, you are required to read a summary of what the movie meant immediately after watching them in order to actually understand them. This is that type of movie.

After reading the summary and the explanation, it all makes a bit more sense (not the part with the giants but whatever). Still the gatekeeping done by the movie in not explaining everything and doing weird, seemingly out of place things is kind of annoying. Still, with that being said, this movie is a beautifully shot film and the performances, particularly from Dev Patel and Alicia Vikander, were great.

The movie was pretty funny in parts which almost took me out of the movie as well, normally comic relief is welcome but these moments were just out of nowhere and in parts that weren’t really needing the comic relief which was off-putting.

I know usually I go on and on about the movies I see and how they are great but this one just wasn’t my favorite. Like I said though, if you like a more unique “artsy fartsy” movie as I would usually call it, and you are more okay with thought provoking movies where to truly understand them you need to read5 different articles written by the nerds and movie analysts of the world, then you will probably like this one.

Honestly, the best part of this movie was that there were a couple of dogs in it. So that definitely bumps the rating up a bit.

7/10 random naked giants.
